Neil Mcleod OBE established Centre Industries in 1961 as a factory where people with physical disabilities and able-bodied individuals worked together, which grew over the years to employ 300 people with disabilities and 200 able-bodied people by 1974.

The History of Packforce

In 1961, a visionary named Neil Mcleod OBE embarked on a remarkable journey to create an inclusive workplace for individuals with physical disabilities. His dream materialized in the form of Centre Industries, situated in the scenic locale of Allambie Heights. Through the generosity of volunteers and donors, this factory came to life, serving as a beacon of empowerment and equality. Over the ensuing 11 years, Centre Industries, later rebranded as Packforce, underwent significant expansions. Its growth was fueled by the acquisition of substantial contracts from prominent entities like Telecom, Sagem, and GTE Australia Ltd. These milestones not only underscored the enterprise's capabilities but also validated Neil's unwavering belief in the potential of individuals with disabilities.

In 1974, Neil made a pivotal decision to step down from his role as a Director at The Spastic Centre. This move signified his unwavering commitment to Center Industries, as he assumed the mantle of Managing Director on a full-time basis. By this juncture, Centre Industries had emerged as a significant employer, boasting a workforce of 300 individuals with physical disabilities and 200 able-bodied employees. Through Neil's leadership and dedication, Centre Industries became more than just a factory; it became a symbol of inclusivity and empowerment, setting a precedent for others to follow in the pursuit of creating a more equitable society.
